No Laces for shoes

I saw a older woman yesterday
she was in shock
she was walking the streets all night
afraid of being attacked
and nowhere to go
the streets are cold and corrupt
too brutal for the the elderly
she missed her lesson on
capitalism
she wore high tops without laces
her face was in shock
of the night she could not do again
the shelters were full
the raindrops were as big as
baseballs
beating on her spirit
as she wished her life
would stop.

We still rise, we will not apologize for anything!

I found a bird, this morning, down-down-on a little bush at the foot of the garden, and wherefore sing, I said, since nobody hears? One sob in the throat, one flutter of bosom -- "My business is to sing" -- and away she rose!
